According to the "time" magazine reported that the Harvard University will open a course called "real" game of Thrones ": from medieval to modern myth prototype" (The Real Game of Thrones: From Modern Myths to Medieval Models). The course will explore the similarities and differences between the play and the real history of the Middle Ages through the study of George R R Martin's song "ice and fire" and the adaptation of the HBO TV game entitled "power game".

(The Real Game of Thrones: From Modern Myths to Medieval Models)。

The class will explore how the series "echoes and adapts, as well as distorts the history and culture of the 'medieval world' of Eurasia from AD 400 to AD 1500" by exploring "a set of archetypal characters at the heart of Game of Thrones with distinct analogues in medieval history, literature, religion, and legend."

Harvard's medieval studies professors hope that the 100-level course can leverage student interest in Game of Thrones into a greater interest in the humanities. As Time noted, student interest in this area of study has waned in recent years, per an American Academy of Arts & Sciences study that reported an 8.7 percent decline in bachelor's degrees awarded in this subject area between 2012 and 2014.

In fact, the "game of Thrones" to stimulate students' learning enthusiasm is not the first Harvard, as early as in 2015, the The University of British Columbia in Canada (University of British Columbia) on the creation of a similar course. The name of the course is "modern medieval": Modern Medieval: Song Ice and as contemporary Medievalism (Our of The Fire) as a medieval medieval song. Students who want to study this course must read through all five books on the song of ice and fire, and must also keep up with the latest developments in the game of thrones.
该课程的名称为“现代的中世纪:作为当代中世纪主义的《冰与火之歌》”(Our Modern Medieval: The Song of Ice and Fire as contemporary Medievalism)。

UC Berkeley has offered multiple courses that draw inspiration from the series. In 2015, it offered a film studies course, "Film Genre: Game of Thrones" centered on the show's theatrical themes.

And this summer, the school will offer a six-week course titled "The Linguistics of Game of Thrones and the Art of Language Invention," taught by Dothraki creator David J. Peterson.
